I just finished playing Mother 3 recently and would like to highly recommend it to anyone that has even a remote interest in playing video games and/or just has an interest in stuff that is culturally relevant to the modern world we live in:
Here’s a great Kotaku article on the game for your reference.
Hopefully you’ll be as amazed as I was at how good this game is, and more than that, how utterly relevant it is to the world we live in, even more so today than when it was first released. Don’t let the cutesy albeit lovely visuals fool you; there’s a deep, serious, thought provoking and heart wrenching tale just beneath the lovely cartoony surface 😉
Despite Nintendo seriously not giving this game the love it deserves, you can actually play an utterly stellar English version of the game on either your PC or Mac using something like Visual Boy Advance for PC or OpenEmu for Mac, which you can download here:
Then you just need to download the English patch of the ROM and run it in the emulator, which you can get here (Click the Fan Translated English Pre-patched version)
You’re welcome. 🙂
Loving the art style in this game.
I wish more games looked similar to this actually because it’s far closer to how I always imagined classic arcade games like Alien Vs Predator and Dungeons & Dragons etc would look when realised in full 3D; much more so than the kind of grey/brown monotone, shiny metal/plastic and gritty “realistic” games I’ve had to endure for the last couple of generations.
This however is the kind of lovely colourful, vibrant, upbeat, fantastical and fun look I can actually get behind 😀
Imagine if this were actually a proper first person shooting (fps) game and maybe even in virtual reality (VR) 😮
Totally violent and visceral but boy would it be immersive!
Of course hopefully we’ll have a lot more than just violent fps games when the VR revolution comes around 🙂
